The Old Lady With the Hat

I have seen
The old lady with the hat
At the supermarket
Buying grapes
And outside
In her garden
Planting poppies
And in her home
Through the window
Playing the piano
She has twelve cats
And two children-
Both grown
And no husband-
Because of the war
To some people
She is just the old lady with the hat
But to me
She is the old lady with the hat
And the twelve cats
And the two children-
Both grown
And no husband-
Because of the war

A Winter Walking

Sometimes...
When I am walking
I can hear my footsteps talking
Their sound is almost stalking
Like a winter cabin locking
Locking out all the dreary cold

But when I start to tire
And stop abrupt to inquire
I just know I feel a fire
Fire like none 'ere before

The doves proceed in singing
Their song so very clinging
Within my ears it is ringing
Ringing stories yet untold

So I will continue going
My hands within my pockets stowing
While my movements continue showing
Showing that my body is growing old

But I do not cease in pressing
Though the cold continues caressing
And the snow is swiftly dressing
Dressing the ground upon which I walk

That day I remembered clearly
Though not so very dearly
For it overtook me drearly
Drearly my death came swifter
Than the snow...

TIME

Ding dong, ding dong
Time is talking to me...
I hear it's echo in the street
It's song beneath my feet
I see it's hands I cannot hold
Reciting their story still untold
It's face has no expression
It moves without regression
Speaking in only silence
And being killed without violence...

Queen of Diamons, Queen of Hearts

An innocent addiction-
To play, to steal, to win
Protecting precious hands
Of people cold and thin

My fellow lady wishing
To lie down with kings and queens
As my stare cuts deep within her
Flashing romantic lusty scenes

I wish for nothing more than love
To stand by me day by day
While she imagines gold and jewels
Money and diamonds to come her way

My preconceived notions are accurate
As she lays down her losing hand
I laugh as I look at her fine lady
Who claims to rule the land

I begin to dream of my future
Knowing all that I’ve just won
And call my own bluff to win the game
Setting my cards down one by one

My royalty glares within her eyes
Picking her soul into pieces and parts
And let it be known that on this day-
Queen of Diamonds lost to Queen of Hearts

Flower Petals

He loves me...
He loves me not...
White petals dance around
In the crisp, spring breeze
Drifting to the ground
And saluting all the trees
As I sing the words of hope
And pray he loves me too
My petals whirl around me
Donned in white so very true
If I see him in the sunrise
And kiss him gingerly
When the dew is wiped from my eyes
I will be able to see
That my flower petals harken
They always state what's true
Then the day begins to darken
And the flower petals are few
But if I stand in this piece of moonlight
That my fragile body has caught
My flower petals whisper softly
He loves me...
He loves me not...

Changes...

When I walk outside
And kiss the air
The songs of summer
Are everywhere
But later on
Within the day
Fall skipped by
And blew summer away
Though it wasn't long
As my story is told
That winter came around
And fall was cold
When the pure white snow
Slid away from everything
The earth was revealed
And I found the spring
But springs daisies danced
Through the air so thin
Then they drifted away
Into summer again...

This One is for the World

Here's to you- oh lonely child
With a quick tempoed heart
And eyes big and wild
Whose mother passed
So he could have life
To the old widowed woman
And the man without a wife
To the dead born baby
Who drifted away
Crying in the wind
And the adulteress who
Was stoned to death
Because she had sinned
To the heartbroken lady
Who sold her soul for a kiss
To the grandmother in the rocking chair
Who her family won't even miss
To the innocent young girl
Who danced upon a rainbow
And to the mother deer who led her babies
Through the heavy snow
To all those hurting in love
And all those scarred in hate
And to the family who can't find the means
To have food on their plate
To the kitten in the alley
And the puppy in the pound
And the children who wish to cry out
But cannot make a sound
To all the hurting people
Wherever they may be
This one's for the entire world-
This one's for you and me.

Nighttime's Secret...

I saw the moon shine at it's brightest
And the stars dance up high in the sky
And the green, green, grass don fresh dew
And I heard the crickets cry
I danced with all the fireflies
And whispered to all the trees
And I ran down the shore
And through the sand
And waved to the dark blue seas
I saw my reflection in a rippled pond
With moonlight at its heart
And I watched the silky rose petals
Slowly come apart
And nighttime told me a secret
That I shall forever keep
About the magical dance of beauty and love
That she does while we're asleep...

Glitter Covered Alibis

I woke to hear words soft and sweet
And poems written nice and neat
And secrets kept to my surprise
Of glitter covered alibis

But this thing called love supressed it all
A question left for me to call
Was lovely like the moon's sweet glow
And answered the question I'll never know

Love's victory held out a crecendo forte
And told me it just couldn't stay
And my tears created the crystal river
That sent love away without a quiver

But if one last victory is sustained to press
In the shadows of my loneliness
Then I shall curse the heavens and skies above
And despise this wretched thing called love

Long Live the Poet!!!

The shooting was avid
Amid the night’s crystal charm
And the foot soldiers wounded
Still wished once to harm

The people were ignorant
As the war still rolled on
And the night cried defeat
Wishing violence be gone

No questions were asked
Not a single word wondered

And the tears of the night
Led to storms, rolls of thunder

The ones who had lied
At once were all known
And the hands which shed blood
Were too fast overthrown

The souls who had taken
In greed and in lust
Were washed out by the river
Left only for dust

Neither devil nor angel
Nor hypocrite was found
For the books of the holy
Were left to rot in the ground

The people knew not
Of a fate so unkind
Believing Mother Earth
To be out of her mind

The armies were strong
But the war took its toll
And no thief could be found
Nor ill-tempered soul

The battle cries echoed
Through the blood covered hills
As guns, knives, and fists
Hunt thirsty for kills-

A drink for the battle!
A drink for the fight!
A drink for the army!
A drink for the night!
A drink for my enemy!
A drink for my friend!
And a drink for the ones
Who won’t make it to the end.”

But no murder could prosper
No man out to kill
No thief or no hypocrite
No soul of ill will

For as the sun rose at dawn
After the night long and bloody
Few souls were left standing
On the ground torn and muddy

The uncovered graves
Were as thick as the norm
And the fragile few fellow
Who weathered the storm

Soon looked up in awe
At the hill shadowed light
At a brave band of soldiers
Who had refused the fight

They raised high their weapons
Of peace and of rest
And knew none other method
To be put to the test

Their words were of wisdom
Showed their strong battle cry
And none of them worried
Nor lay down to die

And if you listen real closely
The shout is still heard
Of strong minds and strong pens
Splitting mountains with word

They sung it loud and clear
So the whole world would know it-
Long live!
Long live!
Long live the poet!

Love Provoked Uncertainty

May it be known that on this day-
I love you
My heartfelt dreams are soon to blow away
I've lost all sense of hope and generosity
And ambiguity is potent on this day

I've left behind a prestigious trail of sorrows
Each one lovely, rich, and dominantly well refined
My heart found love amid a maze of tomorrows
And animosity hence packed up and left my mind

I fell victim to a rage of happy mornings
I dipped my hands into the fountain of young and old
For now I believe that age means merely nothing
Because love is really a story left untold
